When Things Don’t Make Sense

When Things Don’t Make Sense

“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts.”  Isaiah 55:8-9

Life can sometimes be very confusing, even for the believer. Things happen to us that we do not understand. Sometimes it seems like no logical explanation is happening to you.

Honestly, there are many things that are really hard to explain. I am sure in all of our years of growing up we all have heard the old cliché “The Lord works in mysterious ways.”

When your situation doesn’t make any sense, be still because God is certainly doing something important. So we better be still, listen, and learn.

Sometimes we try to put God in a box. We expect Him to do things the way we think they should be done. However it says in Isaiah 55:8-9, “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts.”

Think again, for God Himself declares in this text that His thoughts and His ways are not the same as ours His ways and thoughts are beyond our comprehension.

When it is difficult to understand the situation you are facing now, think of God's way of always having good results.

What are you presently passing through? Heartbreak, delays or inexplicable circumstances? I want to encourage you that, there is a message behind that heartache. Like a loving father, God is protecting you from an unseen havoc. It might seem painful right now but, if you choose to obey God and let Him have His way, you will be happier in the end.

So what do we do when things don’t make sense in our lives?

First Trust God...If you do not understand what is happening to you, put your trust in God. Time and man change, but God remains true to who He is. God is unchanging. His Word remains true and consistent. So we can trust Him. We must strive to view everything from God’s perspective. His ways are not our ways, and He wants us to examine the issue from beyond our normal human point of view. We must surrender also to the will of God and then rest in His faithfulness to see us through the ordeal.

Stay Put. Do not leave immediately or give up because you do not understand what other people are thinking and doing. Unless it is the Lord who tells you to go and don’t go. God is not after our comfort but our character.
And He will often put us in difficult situations so that we can learn and be strong.

Learn as Much as You Can. What can you learn from situations you do not understand and do not control? You can learn humility. Knowing that there are many things that are beyond your control. You can also learn to understand others. Sometimes, an event seems pointless because it is not what you want it to be. Instead of forcing others to see things the way you see it, learn to understand where others might be coming from. We must pray, “Father, what is Your goal for my life in this adversity?” God can turn any time into a teaching moment.

There are many opportunities that open up for us when things don’t make much sense.

We tend sometimes to trust in our own thinking, our own ways and we choose to solve our own problems rather than giving it to God. Always remember that God’s way is always perfect, always for the good, and always trustworthy.

We will never fully understand His plans, and to think we can work them out or know them is arrogant and silly on our part. Let’s leave the planning to Him, and just be obedient to what we know He has told us to do.

Trust God always... and lean not to our own notions of human reasoning! Nothing happens by chance with God. He always has a purpose in mind when He allows us to be tested. Sometimes it is to refine us. Sometimes it is to draw us to a closer walk with Him.

God is infinite while we are finite. God is eternal while we are temporary.

The good knew about today is that God’s Word declares that regardless of what we suffer, God is with us and that at the end of our testing period, God will indeed work all things together for our good.

There is one whose ways and thoughts are higher than yours and mine, and He is cheering us on to the finish line.

Therefore, during times of uncertainty, we should turn our lives over to God and allow Him to do what is best. Doing so will help give us peace

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6-7)

Thank you, Lord, that nothing happens by chance. Even though Your ways don’t always make sense to our human reasoning, we know the ultimate victory belongs to You. You always have a divine purpose in mind when You allow us to be tested. Let our adversities refine us and draw us closer to You. Help us to expect Your goodness throughout our day. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
