A prepared soldier of God
"For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand."
Ephesians 6:12-13 (NKJV)
Ephesians 6:12-13 (NKJV)
Every day we wake up, we step into a spiritual battle zone. This passage reminds us, however that we are not fighting our neighbors, co-workers, or friends; instead, we are fighting Satan and his powers of darkness. When we see those people doing wrong or even living lives against God we might conclude that they are our enemy, but they are not the enemy. Soldiers who were sent to Iraq or Afghanistan have brought back stories of how terrorists would blend with the common people. The enemy had joined the fabric of society and woven themselves into the culture. In the same manner, Satan weaves thoughts and ideas into our family and friends and even attempts to do the same inside of us. The great thing is that God is not the type of god to say, “here is the problem now you figure it out.” Not only does this passage point out our enemy, God also tells us how to overcome the enemy. Verses fourteen through seventeen go into detail of the specific items that will help us defend ourselves from the attacks of Satan, and these verses list two weapons to use to attack Satan. In another Mid-Day Motivator, we will look in depth into these things that God uses to equip the soldier of faith. For today, God wants to remind us that we don’t have to flounder around wondering what we are supposed to do or how to protect ourselves from Satan’s attacks. God is calling us to be Soldiers of Faith that are prepared for battle. We need to know who our enemy is, what he looks like, and how to defend ourselves. All we have to do is take up the whole armor of faith, and we will be able to do just that. Please note that God specifically said the “whole” armor. As Christians, we can’t pick and choose. We must put it all on. Our soldiers today are trained, protected, and equipped for the battle that they are asked to fight. We are no different. God is calling us to be trained, learn how to defend ourselves, and how to attack these enemies that we face.
Dear Heavenly Father, We thank you for the privilege of being called your servants. As your servants, you have called us to this spiritual battle. At times, it seems our flesh and desires of the flesh would overtake us, and others times, Satan uses those around us to attack us. Please grant us the insight of whom we are fighting and how to fight. Our spirit may be willing, but this flesh is tricked and snared in the trappings of Satan. So grant us the strength and the tactics to stand holy as you are holy. We pray this in the name of Jesus our Savior. Amen.
